This summer saw the launch of the Sunday Times Motor Awards. The news outlet shortlisted contenders for a variety of categories and readers were then asked to vote for the best model. In the Family Car of the Year category, the Volvo V60 came out top, beating off competition from the BMW 5 Series Touring and the SKODA Superb Estate.
The accolade was presented at a ceremony in London on 10 October, with The Sunday Times’ Driving.co.uk editor, Will Dron, praising the vehicle’s head-turning looks, ‘Scandi-chic’ interior, and practicality. The V60’s review on Driving.co.uk also commended its ability to strike a balance as an “extremely smart executive cruiser and an unfeasibly practical family wagon.”
Jon Wakefield, managing director at Volvo UK said: “We’re delighted to win this award because it reflects the opinions of motorists themselves who have made a considered decision about the best car when it comes to being practical, enjoyable to drive and rewarding to own.”
The new Volvo V60 was launched in February 2018 and offers customers an exceptional choice of trim levels, styling options and technology. Its sleek design gives a sense of perpetual motion, with sculpted flanks, flowing lines and a tapering roof all contributing to the elegant aesthetic. Step inside and you’ll find a carefully crafted interior with intuitive controls and plenty of clever storage spaces including underfloor cubbies and adjustable boot dividers.
With a set of engines that deliver a dynamic drive while keeping emissions low, the V60 turns everyday journeys into something special. The range is set to expand further next year, with plug-in hybrid and Cross Country variants expected soon.
