The V40 possesses a premium cabin that delivers comfort and support in equal measures, and offers plenty of room for four full-size adults, or a young family of five. If the car’s minimum-capacity 335-litre boot space isn’t quite enough, fold the rear seats to increase cargo volume to 1,032 litres.
Standard features include front and rear electric windows and automatic air conditioning (complete with dual-zone climate control), making it easy to establish an ideal interior temperature. Audio entertainment is provided by an eight-speaker sound system (including DAB radio) – and AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity feature too. As you would expect from a Volvo, the V40 comes with a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, and an array of driver aids and passive safety features.
With an entry-level 2.0-litre 122bhp petrol engine (T2) installed, the V40 manages up to 50.4mpg, and produces CO2 emissions from 127g/km. For optimal fuel-efficiency, look for models fitted with a 2.0-litre 120bhp diesel unit (D2), which returns as much as 78.5mpg and produces emissions as low as 94g/km.
