The new Volvo S60 is the sport saloon that rewrites the driving story. Effortless performance meets intuitive technology, while a sophisticated chassis balances comfort and control. And a choice of driving modes puts you at the centre of a dynamic experience. The interior is tailored around your needs – a place where connected, easy-to-use technology combines with the wellbeing that only human-centric innovation and elegant Scandinavian design can provide.
The new S60 celebrates the joy of driving through design. Sculpted sides, a sleek profile and muscular shoulders above the rear wheels highlight the car’s athletic character. Scandinavian elegance and dynamic attitude combine to give it a purposeful, focused presence. It is a car that confidently communicates its ability on the road.
The new S60 T6 Twin Engine and T8 Twin Engine models have plug-in hybrid powertrains that give you exceptional performance, versatility and efficiency, supplied by the combination of a four-cylinder petrol engine driving. Whatever your need, the new S60 Twin Engine models offer a Drive Mode to suit. Pure mode provides enough zero-emissions electric power for the average daily commute, while Power mode ensures the most powerful response. Default Hybrid mode chooses between the power sources, or combines them, to keep you moving as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
The innovative engines available for the new S60 balance strong performance with low emissions and fuel consumption, so you can enjoy the feeling of power, responsibly. Each is a four-cylinder engine that is turbocharged for maximum responsiveness. The T6 engine also has a supercharger, for even stronger low-rev responses. Power is sent through smooth-shifting transmissions – an 8-speed Geartronic automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles on the R-Design variants, or a six-speed manual gearbox.
DYNAMISM IN DETAIL
Distinctive details enhance the powerful character of the new S60 and identify it as one of the new generation of Volvo cars. The prominent front grille wears its Volvo emblem proudly, while the long bonnet and deep front bumper express power. Full LED headlights with Volvo Cars’ unique T-shaped light signature create an unmistakable presence, day or night. At the rear, the boot edge kicks upwards for a sportier a
THE HUMAN TOUCH
A centre display with touch screen is the effortless way that you connect with the new S60. It has a portrait format that makes reading information easy and reduces scrolling, while the 9-inch screen has a special non-reflective coating and is so responsive you can even use it while wearing gloves.
YOUR WINDOW TO THE SKY
The panoramic roof available for the new S60 bathes the interior in natural light. It’s large enough that those in both the front and rear seats can benefit from it, while special tinted glass reduces unwanted heat and UV radiation. It features a power-operated sunshade that makes it easy to keep strong light out if necessary, while the front part of the roof can be tilted or opened to provide extra ventilation.
LARGE LOAD SPACE
The new S60 has a large load compartment with a volume of 442 litres and the option of a 60/40-split and folding rear backrest.
The new S60 seats five and everyone travels in relaxed comfort. Heated front and outer rear seats are available.
SAFER, BY DESIGN
The innovative safety features that make the new S60 a safe place for you and your passengers are the result of decades of innovation. At the core is a rigid safety cell that protects all the car’s occupants, while crumple zones front and rear dissipate as much energy as possible in the event of a collision.
SEE MORE, STAY SAFER
City Safety is a Volvo Cars innovation that helps to protect people inside and outside the new S60 by spotting potential danger and helping you avoid it. Radar and camera technology identifies other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and large animals ahead, day or night. City Safety warns you if it detects an imminent collision and, if you don’t react in time, it can automatically apply the brakes to help avoid or mitigate a collision. In the new S60, City Safety also includes Steering Support, which helps you to steer away from danger as effectively and safely as possible.
Design wise the Volvo S60 sticks faithfully to the winning formula Volvo has established over the last three years, but it isn’t quite a shrunken S90, with its much shorter overhangs, lipped bootlid and racy standard bodykit hinting that this is a car Volvo is aiming squarely at people who want to drive.
The dashboard layout is neat, the steering wheel is wonderfully plush and trimmed with soft leather, the metals and plastics are all top quality and it all centres around a slick and sharp looking 9.3-inch portrait touchscreen.
"Looks sharp inside and out, Strong on quality" - Auto Trader
The S60 is Volvo’s answer to popular compact executive saloons like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, and differentiates itself from the rest with its cool, individual style and its plentiful technology, not to mention Volvo’s impressive reputation for safety. Why Buy? Because you want your executive car to be a little bit different to the ones everyone else drives, and you want it to have its own style and identity. Also because you value quality, technology and generous equipment, along with the peace of mind that you’re probably driving one of the safest cars on the road.
In this class it’s fresh and exciting – and, let’s face it, instantly desirable to behold – but the third-generation S60 nevertheless feels familiar. Audi, BMW and Mercedes could all learn a thing or two from Volvo about fusing comfort with control. Design, too.
"Everything we've come to love about new-age Volvos in a smaller size" - Top Gear
This S60 is the Swedes’ seventh all-new car since 2014, though the cynical among you might suggest such turnover is easy when all your cars look the same. Indeed, if you’re not sold on the way the styling of the XC90 (or V90, or S90, or XC60…), you won’t be keen on this. We happen to think it looks flipping fantastic – clean and classy without being boring, in a world where the BMW 3 Series manages the opposing trick of being fussy yet dull. It’s a cracking looking car, the S60, and it does everything pretty well: it drives sharply given its FWD core, it’s comfy and cosseting inside, and there’s a shedload of tech on board.
